5 Powerful Health Benefits of Spirulina
Video Transcript:
Today, I’m so excited to share with you five health benefits of spirulina, one of the most amazing natural greens to help your body stay optimized and to help you feel so well. I’m so excited to share with you this amazing blue-green algae and its benefits.
1. Provides an All-Around Powerhouse Nutrient Source
Number one, spirulina is a powerful, powerful, nutrient-dense, multivitamin, multi-mineral. It is essentially going to give you all those key nutrients, your vitamins, and certain essential minerals like iron and magnesium and calcium. It’s also a complete protein and amino acid profile [1], which means spirulina functions as a powerful vegan and vegetarian protein source. Its beautiful, dark, rich, like turquoisey blue-green color, makes it super power punch in all of the Bs. It’s a B complex and in the right bioavailable form.
2. Supports Detoxification & Key Detox Organs
The second powerful health benefit that spirulina offers is its detoxification capabilities [2]. Spirulina has the ability to bind to heavy metals and other toxins that you’re absorbing in your environment every day. If you’ve had dental work maybe in the past, or you work in an environment that is rich in cadmium and arsenic and mercury, or use a lot of heavy metals or toxins in your daily life, spirulina can help support your detox organs and it can help bind and remove those particular toxins.
It becomes this really amazing detoxing binding agent [3]. With its nutrient density, the nutrient profile, it also supports the key organs of detoxification like your lymphatics and your liver and your entire kidney-bladder function, as well as supports the circulation. Very, very powerful detoxer.
3. Helps Protect Your Cells with Powerful Antioxidants
The third health benefit with spirulina is that it is a power punch of antioxidants. Antioxidants are a key element if you are dealing with any systemic and/or cellular inflammation.
Spirulina and its antioxidant properties give your cells protection from free radical damage. Every day, the functions of the body creates assorted oxidative stressors, and oxidative stressors yield these little single-cell free radicals. Those are damaging to our vascular channel and our cells. Antioxidants work like Pac-Man and gobble those up and remove them from the body.
Spirulina can really help reduce the aging process, but also enhances the antioxidant intake that you are consuming on a daily basis if you take spirulina daily. I love it as a choice for supporting any chronic illnesses and chronic diseases you might be dealing with.
4. Stimulates Your Immune System
The fourth powerful benefit is that it is an immune system supportive. It actually has the capacity to gently stimulate your immune system to ward off illness and disease.
It functions great as a preventative, but it also can help ramp up and trigger your immune system in the event that you might be dealing with autoimmunity or dealing with any type of illness that your body’s just not tackling.
From the autoimmune perspective, it’s more of a modulator. And then if you are dealing with frequent colds and flus and illness, it just boosts that immune cell production in a way that you can combat the illness. Very, very powerful immune supportive.
5. Supports Heart Health & Keeps Cholesterol Levels in Check
And then last and final, it is a powerhouse of cardiovascular support. Specifically, studies have shown that spirulina can help decrease your LDL, which is the cholesterol levels that we want to keep as low as possible. LDL is responsive to the free radical damage and the net effects of the free radicals in your vascular channel, the liver produces LDL.
When LDL is required because of free radical damage, we can see elevations in LDL. The antioxidant power of spirulina helps us decrease the need for LDL and reduces those numbers, while also increasing the HDL, which is powerful. We want greater quantity of HDL than LDL.
And then overall, spirulina can reduce your heart disease risk. This is very powerful. If you do, like myself, have family history of heart disease, heart attack, strokes. This is a powerful way to use a vegan, vegetarian-based protein power punch with the blue-green algae that’s absorbing all of these great chemicals in the ocean and from the sun. You can harness that power to support your heart.

How much would be a serving of spirulina per day? 1 tsp?

Hi Valeria,
Unfortunately, there is no recommended daily dose. However, although we do not provide a breakdown of how much spirulina in in our OrganiGreens, taking 1 serving a day of our OrganiGreens does contain a good dose of spirulina. We hope you decide to give it a try. Enjoy your day! :)
