  1. I always look for Unrefined – why does it have to be Refined ?? — I think I will rather use the unrefined Coconut oil – without the extra effort to “pretence” !!

    • Hi Erie, thank you for your comment.

The reason why you should use refined coconut oil in the vegan butter recipe is that if virgin (unrefined) coconut oil is used, the butter is going to have a coconut taste.

Virgin coconut oil boasts a delicious, tropical coconut scent and flavor while refined coconut oil has a neutral scent and flavor.

We hope this helps. Keep us posted if you decide to recreate the recipe. We’d love to know how it turns out for you.

Thank you for being here with us. We hope you have a wonderful day.

  2. I thought that refined coconut oil is not in the healthy catagory. I would prefer a healthy oil. Could not cold pressed extra virgin olive oil work in this recipe? Thanks for your sharing, and for your advice.

    • Hello Abigail! Thank you for your question.

There doesn’t appear to be an easy swap out for the coconut oil. There are quite different vegan butter recipes online that don’t call for coconut oil, but they involve a totally different set of ingredients.

We hope this helped and please let us know if you have more questions for us. Have a great day!

Unfortunately, we’re unable to guarantee how it will work in all recipes as it would depend on the recipe itself and the ingredients used. If you decide to try it, do share your experience with us. We’d love to hear it.

  3. Hello! Thank you for the recipe! I have a question. Can I use another milk instead of hemp milk? Rice or oats milk for example?
