Easy Homemade Vegan Butter

Ingredients

  • 1 cup refined coconut oil, melted (do not use extra virgin coconut oil)
  • 2 Tablespoons avocado or hemp oil
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened hemp milk
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon nutritional yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon Himalayan salt

Instructions

  1. Into a blender container, add melted refined coconut oil along with the avocado/hemp oil; set aside.
  2. In a measuring cup, add apple cider vinegar and hemp milk, stir to combine. The mixture should curdle slightly. Add this to blender container. Add nutritional yeast and salt and process in a blender until quite smooth.
  3. Pour into a small glass dish and refrigerate until solid.

  1. I always look for Unrefined – why does it have to be Refined ?? — I think I will rather use the unrefined Coconut oil – without the extra effort to “pretence” !!

      The reason why you should use refined coconut oil in the vegan butter recipe is that if virgin (unrefined) coconut oil is used, the butter is going to have a coconut taste.

      Virgin coconut oil boasts a delicious, tropical coconut scent and flavor while refined coconut oil has a neutral scent and flavor.

  2. I thought that refined coconut oil is not in the healthy catagory. I would prefer a healthy oil. Could not cold pressed extra virgin olive oil work in this recipe? Thanks for your sharing, and for your advice.

      There doesn’t appear to be an easy swap out for the coconut oil. There are quite different vegan butter recipes online that don’t call for coconut oil, but they involve a totally different set of ingredients.
