Is it Possible to Overdose on Supplements? "Doc Talks" with Dr. Nuzum

Jonathan Hunsaker: Ever wonder if you can overdose on supplements? Are there certain vitamins and minerals that you should be cautious how much you take?
Jonathan Hunsaker here with Organixx. How safe are supplements? Can you take too many? What if you’re taking some from different manufacturers? Let’s talk to Doc Nuzum for the answer. 
Dr. Daniel Nuzum: “So, Doc, is it possible to overdose on supplements?” 
There are certain supplements that have potential for overdose. Things that have the potential to harm people are calcium supplements, iron supplements, magnesium supplements, fat-soluble vitamins like vitamin A, vitamin K. 
In reality, it takes massive amounts of these things to cause damage or to cause harm. In most cases, your recommended daily allowances and your recommended doses are so far under the possible toxic levels that, in many cases, you would have to take an entire bottle or multiple bottles of a particular supplement to actually hit a toxic level of a specific nutrient. 
But you take things like calcium supplements; calcium stops stomach acid production. You want to do that kind of before you go to bed if you’re going to take a calcium supplement. And you don’t want to take lots of it, either. 
Magnesium has a very similar effect. 
These are alkaline minerals that are very, very alkaline, and can cause some gut issues if taken around food. So, calcium, magnesium are very common supplements that can cause [people] digestive problems if they’re taking them too high of doses or too consistently around food. 
Iron is another one. Iron, if it’s not the right type of iron supplement, kind of your sulfates and those types of things, those can cause damage just because they’re—it’s almost a heavy metal.

  1. I’m trying to find out if the 5000IU amount of fermented Vitamin D3 contained in your Turmeric product is overdoing it. I’ve read elsewhere that too much Vitamin D, over the recommended daily amount, is harmful. Why is there so much Vitamin D in the Turmeric product?
