How Much Collagen Should I Take Each Day to Heal Leaky Gut?

Today’s question comes from one of our viewers asking about collagen for leaky gut. Specifically, this individual says, “A lot of people are taking collagen, but we’re not sure what is the right amount. Can you clarify, for individuals who want to heal leaky gut, how much collagen should we be taking?”

  1. Hello! When you speak about micro dosing, how much is that? Divide 1 scoop into 3 amounts during the course of the day? More than 1 scoop per day? Please give specifics if possible.

    • Hi Deborah, There is no current definitive dosage or limit set for collagen supplements. We recommend taking 3 scoops per day for 1 month if you have never taken a collagen supplement in the past. This equates to 25.5g if using our Clean Sourced Collagens. After that 1 scoop daily which is 8.5g per day for maintenance. Some people take more and some may take less. Micro dosing would be splitting your ideal dosage up into multiple dosages throughout the day. For example if you determined that 24g a day provides the desired results then instead of taking it all at once you would split it into three 8g dosages throughout the day.   2. You never actually define a dose or a micro dose. How many grams are we talking about for a Therapeutic Dose and how many grams for a Micro Dose please?

    • Hi Sara! Our Clean Sourced Collagens contain 8.5g of collagens per scoop. If you have never taken a collagen supplement before then we recommend taking 1 scoop in the morning, afternoon and evening for a month. After the month you can do a maintenance dose of 1 scoop per day. If you want to split your maintenance dose up over the course of the day you may do this as well. Collagen is generally a safe daily supplement. However, there is no current definite recommendation on the limit to be used daily. Most people will take the amount that fits their specific needs. Some things to watch for to know if you may be taking too much for your body are indigestion and bloating. I hope this helps. Have an awesome day!

  3. What about the high arginine content and influence on Herpes or other viral replication? Do you recommend adding Lysine?

    • Hi Pat, This is a great question. Arginine has been known to assist the herpes virus in replication. While lysine has been known to slow down or prevent the growth of HSV-1. However, both of these amino acids are in the Clean Sourced Collagens. In this case we suggest speaking with your doctor to find out if taking collagen would be right for you.
