Why Dr. Melissa Doesn’t Typically Recommend Multivitamins

Video Transcript:

Multi-Vita-Maxx is such a great multivitamin, multimineral mix. Generally speaking, I actually don’t recommend multivitamins because they’re often deficient in the assorted forms of vitamins that we need, and also, they are hard for the body to break down.

But I’m excited to share with you that I do recommend Multi-Vita-Maxx here from Organixx because we have delivered plant-based, wholefood-based nutrition in this multivitamin.

And that’s a big difference.

Most Multivitamins Aren’t Broken Down in Your Stomach

To be honest with you, what we see in the clinical setting, especially if we x-ray a gut, a lot of the typical multivitamins – like Centrum or the ones that you’re buying at big-box stores like Target, and your pharmacies, or even your grocery stores – they don’t even get broken down by your stomach. So, it’s a total waste of money, it’s a total waste of digestive effort. And in general, it can cause more harm than good.

Augment Your Diet with Food-Based Nutrition & Multi-Minerals

With Multi-Vita-Maxx, we have blended in not just food-based nutrition, we’ve also added enzymatic nutrition. We’ve also added multi-minerals, which are really, really… this is where we harness the amazing power of the Multi-Vita-Maxx. And we’ve added pre- and probiotics to the mix.

So, globally speaking, if you are looking for a way to up your nutrition, you’re looking to augment or supplement what you are consuming on a daily basis, be it juicing or a vegan diet, or you’re looking to add maybe a little bit more greens and good nutrition, then a Multi-Vita-Maxx is a great resource for you to cover those additional needs.

The blending of the multivitamins – this is what I really want to share with you, why this is so powerful, and why I really believe every person – from our early teens to our seniors – should be taking Multi-Vita-Maxx.

Multi-minerals are absolutely critical for your body to function. Without minerals, we have deficiencies, and deficiencies lead to symptoms like insomnia, hair loss, imbalanced heart rate and blood pressure levels, we see calcium mismanagement within the body, and we also see fatigue and immune disorders

When we supplement on a daily basis with a multi-mineral in a multivitamin mix, we’re actually harnessing the power of plants and the power of good nutrition to support our body, so that we’re constantly maintaining those levels.

Bioavailability, Prebiotics & Probiotics are Key

And the other thing that’s really critical is, digestively, the prebiotic and probiotics you’re going to be receiving are also going to help with your digestive process, which in turn helps you to break down better the multivitamin and multi-mineral and the enzymatic nutrition, and it helps you assimilate it better. So overall, we give you a full, complete multi-mineral in a true full form, that is more bioavailable for your body to absorb.

When Should You Take a Multivitamin?

Now, how do you take it? That’s always a big question. I always recommend taking a multivitamin in the morning. Take it with a meal, and that often is going to be the kicking off to your regular supplement regimen.

Often, you’re going to be taking other wonderful products like we have here at Organixx, and you can add in some of those other things, like if you need a little bit more magnesium, you can add that in, or you need a little bit more protein, or even some of the probiotics, you can add those in. You can add them on top of the Multi-Vita-Maxx.

So, I’m excited to share with you some of the most impactful ways for you to improve your health is to have a baseline foundational supplement. And here we have the Multi-Vita-Maxx for you to use. I’m so excited to share this recommendation with you. Multivitamins and multi-minerals in this specific form that we’ve harnessed is going to really, really open up a lot of the energy as well as the digestive requirements needed by your body to assimilate all the good nutrition in this Multi-Vita-Maxx

If you’re not getting all the nutrients and antioxidants you need from food, your best source is whole food vitamins. Organixx Multi-Vita-Maxx contains 21 uniquely fermented vitamins and enzyme-activated minerals that are more “bioavailable” and easily absorbed by your body than the synthetic compounds found in most supplements.

How Balancing Your Gut Health Can Ease Insomnia and Autoimmune Disorders

Video Transcript:

If you deal with any type of insomnia or a multitude of autoimmune disorders, today’s question from one of our viewers is going to be highly impactful. So, my answer to you will also cover a lot of the bases for those of you who have sleep imbalances or are dealing with autoimmunity.

So, our question today comes from one of our viewers and the question specifically is, “How to combat high-level insomnia with multiple autoimmune illnesses?”

So, this is a great question. Specifically, I look at these two categories: We have multiple autoimmune diseases or disorders, and then we also have insomnia. And the two are interrelated, but we’re going to go into a deep dive here specifically about the nature of inflammation – systemic inflammation within the body.

Systemic Inflammation and our Stress Response Mechanism

Anytime I work with patients who have multiple levels – sometimes we consider these primary, secondary, and tertiary. So, we have these different layers, where one autoimmunity begets another, and then it’s this ripple effect where we will see compounding degrees of autoimmunity. This is ultimately going to trigger this whole stress response mechanism[1] in the patient’s body.

So, specifically in this case, high levels or intense insomnia is a symptom of the inflammatory state of your body, specifically relating to these varying degrees of autoimmune disorder. And ultimately, anytime we’re looking at high levels of inflammation, as well as neurotransmitter imbalances – and that’s what insomnia really is signaling – is the brain is not getting all the right signals, and the communication pathways to calm the central nervous system and to have our glymphatic system do its detoxing at night – power down our organs in a good, rest-filled, rejuvenative sleep – then we are looking at, when that’s lacking, we’re looking at a deeper element of gut dysbiosis.

Gut Dysbiosis and Insomnia

And so, at the end of the day, inflammation and insomnia, we have to zero in on gut dysbiosis. And I highlight this really specifically in two of my master classes. One is gut-health-specific, and the other one is more of the biohacking your brain.

But in these two categories – brain health and gut health – there’s an interconnectivity where our brain is getting controlled by our second brain, our gut, and an assortment of chemicals, hormones, and neurotransmitters are being produced and controlled by our gut.

Enteric Nervous System and Gut Microbiome

We have this whole other part of our nervous system called our enteric nervous system[2], our ENS. The ENS is housed in our gut and it is heavily influenced by your gut microbiome. The little microbes of your gut, the bacteria in your gut, control all of these communication pathways. So if we’re looking at deep insomnia, we need to go deeper into the gut and healing the gut, healing leaky gut, healing bacterial imbalances in the small and large intestine, and ultimately calming this enteric nervous system.

Then, the other thing that we’re dealing with, with any type of autoimmunity, is we’re dealing with leaky gut. Leaky gut is that source that causes systemic inflammation and triggers the immune response mechanism where the body, our immune system, attacks itself. And this is very broad. I don’t know what type of autoimmunity you’re dealing with, but common autoimmune elements that are gut-related are going to be things like rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto’s is a gut-related autoimmune dysfunction. We look at Sjogren’s disease as another one – we often see this as a third level, a tertiary-related autoimmune dysfunction – lupus, MS, we can see things like vitiligo and skin imbalances. We can even see autoimmunity of our joints. But all of the inflammation that we’re dealing with, it’s all coming back to the gut.

And then the gut-brain connection… there’s a gut-brain access, that’s actually what we call those pathways. We need to balance that pathway and we need to help the communication function better. And so I’m going to share with you some tips.

Test Before Supplementing or Treating

Definitely, I’d encourage you to take one of my masterclasses. But for sure, here at Organixx, the ProBiotixx+ has L. Plantarum. This is a single form of bacteria, so it’s one type of strain.

And anytime we’re looking at microbiome or microbes in our gut, I always say, “Don’t guess, test.” And so test your microbiome. There are ways that we can do that. We can do specifically gut testing, where we’re testing stool and actually analyzing your microbes, and then can really get specific about your ENS and where those communication pathways are deficient or not properly communicating.

We can also identify reasons why you might be presenting with estrogen dominance or why there’s hormonal imbalances that are also offsetting the melatonin levels. The melatonin is also a neurotransmitter.

Balancing Your Gut Health is the Primary Goal

So, at the end of the day, it’s all about balancing your gut, creating homeostasis in our gut. So, eating good, healthy, rich probiotic-dense foods, fermented foods, fermented fibers, fermented supplementation, which you get a plethora of fermented supplementation here at Organixx. As well as adding additional prebiotic-dense fiber, both soluble and insoluble fiber in the forms of apple pectin and inulin. These are all very powerful at helping to support and create a more supple, balanced, homeostasis within your gut.

Test Neurotransmitter Levels to Determine Specific Healing Protocol

So, I hope this answers your specific question. What I always recommend when we’re dealing with any type of multiple layers of illness is you want to get really specific. Again, you don’t want to guess, you want to test. So, test your melatonin levels. You can actually test your whole neurotransmitter profile. I do this with a lot of patients in my clinic where we need to know where their histamine levels are, where is their melatonin, where’s their dopamine, the serotonin, norepinephrine, epinephrine, and assortment of other neurotransmitters.

Those levels we need to identify, because often, melatonin gets billed as the cure-all of every insomnia type of case or state, but going deeper, looking at that deep dive, and going to the root cause of insomnia, it might not be a deficiency in melatonin. It’s likely an assortment of gut dysbiosis, as well as an intense inflammatory state that’s also triggering a spike in cortisol, which is the stress hormone, it’s a chronic stress hormone.

In small doses, cortisol is actually anti-inflammatory, but in high doses, it has a reverse effect. It can even create greater inflammation and can create imbalance within our circadian rhythm – the natural cycle of rising in the morning and feeling sleepy at night – and having rest-filled sleep.

So, those are some things to consider in delving into the root of your insomnia and the multiple autoimmune illnesses you’ve identified. And that can ultimately give you greater, more optimized healing. So, I hope that’s helpful, and definitely for folks as well, watching this particular answer, I invite you to ask additional questions about autoimmunity or insomnia or gut health, and I’d love to answer more questions.

What is Your Lymphatic System, What Does it Do, and Why Supporting it is Critical

Video Transcript:

Today, I’m going to share with you a very broad overview of your lymphatic system and all of the different tissue, organs, and elements involved in keeping this really, really important immune and detox process working optimally.

So, your lymphatic system is a network of vessels and organs that help balance your fluid. They help defend and support your body against an infection – so, any type of foreign invader, be it a pathogen or a virus or a bacteria – and the lymphatic system actually helps transport fat from your digestive process.

And I’m going to share with you, I’m a lymphatic specialist. That’s really a core part of my practice, working with individuals who have dysfunctions and disorders of the lymphatic system. So, this is a very, very broad view. I usually deep dive into this, but I’m really trying to keep it in a way that it’s going to give you a broad overview of all the different organs and ways the lymphatics support you. And then I’m going to share with you some tips on how to support it.

Your Lymphatic System Helps Your Immune System Fight Invaders

The lymphatic system also is a huge part of your immune system. And what it does is it actually helps to notify your system, notify your body, that there’s a foreign invader, and then it triggers this whole process to fight off the foreign invader. And it does this through the structure of the lymphatic system.

So, the lymphatic system has lymph vessels, very similar to your capillaries or your vascular vessels, but the lymphatic system is a lot thinner and it’s even more fragile, and there’s no pumping mechanism to the lymphatic system.

So, the heart pumps the cardiovascular system, but there’s no internal pump, specifically, to the lymphatic system. The arterial pressure from your vascular system, there’s a webbing, a connection, and that is the only thing that really forces things into the lymphatic system from a pumping mechanism. But externally, that’s one of the reasons why a lot of folks’ lymphatic systems get sluggish and get bogged down. We actually have to do things to motivate that system. They also, these little vessels, they are transporting white blood cells.

Swollen Lymph Nodes & Healthy vs. Unhealthy Lymph Fluid

They are also responsible for transporting the fluid of the lymphatic system, and we call it “lymph fluid.” And that lymph fluid, healthy fluid is going to be a kind of white, milky substance, very similar to like a watered-down yogurt. A congested lymph fluid is going to be thick and dense like cottage cheese. And when we’re talking about the lymphatic system… like the biggest vessel is as thick as a pen tip, you’ve got a cottage cheese consistency, it’s hard to get that moving.

So, those vessels connect into lymph nodes, these are lymph filters, so they filter lymphatic fluids. So, sometimes we’ll have swollen lymph nodes, because we’ve got thick lymph. And we also will get swollen lymph nodes because the white blood cells get powered up and we have lymphocytes. And we have certain lymph cells that respond to an invader that the lymph has notified the body is in existence.

The Role of the Spleen, Thymus Gland, and Bone Marrow

Then an organ that is connected to this whole process is your spleen. The spleen is a blood filter, but it also houses a lot of your lymphatic vasculature[1], meaning you have the lymph will notify, via foreign invader, and then the spleen starts to get engaged where the spleen removes damaged red blood cells. It also is going to try to remove foreign substances. So, I’ve had patients, and even myself, where you have a foreign invader and your spleen gets enlarged because the spleen is getting activated. So, part of that enlargement is an immune response, and it’s a lymphatic response mechanism.

And then we also have the thymus gland. So, that sits right here in between your chest, right at your breastbone. And the thymus is responsible for producing T-cells.[2] So, these are a particular form of white blood cells that fight infection. So, when the lymph notifies the body that there’s this foreign invader, things start to happen. The lymph nodes start to expand. We get white blood cell count that increases, spleen starts to get engaged, and then the thymus starts sending out the attack cells. So, that gets involved in the fight of an infection, or a bacterial exposure, or a viral invasion.

And then we have your bone marrow. So, the bone marrow sits inside your bone. It’s this kind of spongy tissue, and it creates new blood cells. And part of the new kind of cells it creates are lymphocytes. And these lymphocytes are a particular type of white blood cell and, specifically, are responsive to this immune state of an invasion, an infection, and they are going to be invigorated. So, it’s not uncommon when people get really sick that they do a bone marrow tap, and that’s to assess what’s going on with the lymphocytes, what’s going on with new blood cells.

And so overall, your lymphatic system is part of your capacity, your body’s own innate system to identify foreign invaders, and it will identify foreign bacteria or a harmful substance – maybe a yeast, a fungus, a Lyme-carrying bacteria, whatever it is, it gets invigorated. And so that’s one part of the lymphatic system.

Transporting Fat & Fat-Soluble Vitamins

The other part that is less noteworthy is that it transports fat, and it also picks up fat from the digestive process. And it does this through this whole transport mechanism. And it also carries fat-soluble vitamins from the digestive system to the blood.

And this is really important because a lot of times when I’m working with patients that have reduction or a deficiency in fat-soluble vitamins, we need to address their lymphatic system. And it’s kind of a thought process or counterproductive to thinking that the lymphatic system is going to be a transport mechanism for vitamins, but it is.

How to Encourage Lymphatic Flow in Your Body

And it becomes really important that you look at doing things to move the flow. You can move and support your lymphatic flow by dry skin body brushing, by jumping on a rebounder, and gentle exercise, and getting your body sweating. Those are all powerful ways to support your lymphatic system gently.

And I have a whole bunch of great resources here in our catalog of blog articles where you can find out certain foods to eat, and even we have a great cleanse product that supports your lymphatic system. So, I really hope you check that out and think about everyday assorted ways of motivating your lymphatic system, because it is so important.

So, I’m excited to share with you just a broad overview of your lymphatics 101 and hope you understand a little bit more about this really important, often neglected, system. So, that’s my tip for you today. Just really love on your lymphatics and do things to motivate that flow, to support your fluid balance, enhance your immune state, and help you detox your body.

6 Healthy Tips for a Low-Tox Lifestyle

Video Transcript:

Today, I’m going to share with you six very powerful ways to live a lymphatic healthy lifestyle. If you wondered why this is important, really choosing what we consider low-tox lifestyle is going to help reduce your exposure to an assortment of toxins, pathogens, chemicals, and pollutants that overload your body and can lead to disease. These tips are meant to keep you healthy, and they’re meant to help support your very powerfully working lymphatic system, which keeps you healthy and well.

#1 – Eat Clean

Tip number one is to eat organic clean foods, clean veggies, and clean fruits, and even clean animal proteins, choosing grass-fed, grass-fed that has no pesticides, herbicides, or insecticides, and foods that are not GMO, as well as foods that do not have an assortment of toxins and chemicals inside that fruit or vegetable.

A lot of our veggies and fruit are very susceptible to the skin to absorbing toxins. When there’s certain sprays happening at the very large conventional farms, they’re spraying fruits and veggies with toxins. And then it doesn’t matter how much you clean the outside of that fruit or vegetable, it is going to impact and create toxicity within your body.

Same with the protein. Be aware of what type of protein you’re consuming, how it’s being fed, and particularly minimizing the amount of toxins that that animal has been exposed to or had injected inside of it is going to be really key.

#2 – Use Non-Toxic Cleaning Products

Now, number two, I recommend choosing natural cleaning products. So many of us spend a lot of time every day, every week, every month, and every year cleaning – cleaning our homes, our school, work environment. We clean our cars and even our animals and our homes outside. A lot of the cleaning products are very, very toxin dense. There’s a lot of toxic chemicals and assorted really hard-to-pronounce chemicals that you do not want to be exposed to.

You don’t want the exposure inhalation. You don’t want the exposure on your hands or skin, and we definitely don’t want to have that be consumed by your body in any way, because the chemicals in a lot of natural cleaning products can overload our body, can create excess estrogens, and it can create a situation where we have a sluggish lymphatic system, which then bogs down our natural immune response mechanism and our detox process. Making sure you’re reaching for green, clean products are really key.

I actually recommend checking out an app that you can download by EWG (Environmental Working Group). As you’re shopping, you can use your phone and scan the barcode of certain cleaning products – actually, you can scan foods, too – and it’ll give you a scale of what type of toxins are in it. Green is good. You want to be scanning things that are green. You might even want to do an analysis of what is in your cleaning cabinet and see there might be a lot of those items that are overwhelmingly toxic and you’re not even aware of. Be aware of the label of “natural.” There’s no regulation over that label. Even if you’re choosing things that are natural, do still check it and review the ingredients for toxicity factors.

#3 – Use Non-Toxic Personal Care Products

Number three is going to be reassessing your personal care products. Very similar to the cleaning products, personal care products like makeup, skincare, body care, hair care, perfumes, assorted things that you’re using every day or you’re using to brush your teeth, and really anything that you’re putting on your skin or on your body, even nail polish, can have an assortment of exposure points in terms of toxic chemicals and pollutants. The chemicals that really are going to be very common here are things called phthalates and perfumes or parfums, fragrance. Those are two key elements that you want to be aware of and really eliminate from your daily lifestyle.

We know that the phthalates and perfumes and even certain dyes, they are linked to cancer and they cause cancer. Those toxins overburden an assortment of your detox organs, particularly, most notably are your lymphatic system – the lymphatic vessels and the vasculature of your lymphatic system. Being aware of that, choosing more clean products, choosing healthier, more environmentally friendly, and things that are notable in terms of the EWG. You can scan your beauty care products as well.

#4 – Limit EMF Exposure

Now, another thing that might not be considered is to really limit your EMFs (electric and magnetic fields)[1]. This is your exposure to cell phone use, Wi-Fi, laptop, any of the electronics that are in the home, and even microwaves fall in this category. There’s a certain amount of radiation exposure that we have. Some of it’s milder than others, but just being aware of that can affect the way your body is moving the lymphatic process.

#5 – Drink Clean Water

Also, number five on our list is filtering your water. We drink water every day. Water is an essential requirement for us to live, and a lot of us are having an exorbitant amount of chemical exposure in our water.

If you are consuming water from the tap – so your city, county water source, guaranteed there are going to be things like chlorine, chloramines, fluoride, even birth control pill and statin drugs have been found in water. You want to really filter your water in a robust way.

In our household, we use the Berkey water filtration system. It’s very simple. It’s this big kind of tub that I fill up basically every day. We water ourselves, so we consume water, and we also give this water to our animals. We have dogs and we have these cute little Chilean degus that my son has, and all of them are consuming healthier water.

Water is really key because all of the chlorine and the fluoride that is put in the pipes and tubes of your county, city, municipality water sources, they offset the iodine receptivity in your body. A lot of thyroid imbalances can be offset by filtering your water, but also that helps minimize the burden on your lymphatic system.

#6 – Breathe Clean Air

And last and final is choosing cleaner air. Clean air is really critical. If you live in a city like we do, we actually have clean air warnings. They’ll be orange and red, depending on how hot it is and the amount of smog that’s in the air and you can see it, but also we need clean air in our home environment, our work environment, and for our kids and our school environment.

Consider investing in a good air filtration process. HEPA filters, there are charcoal filters, and we also can see UV filtration process really help minimize the pollutants and toxic chemicals that are in your home environment. One of the things folks don’t realize is a lot of our everyday use items like our couches and our cabinets and our furniture, even our beds off-gas. The off-gassing of toxic chemicals is extremely harmful. If you are sleeping in your bedroom and you’re absorbing all of this from your bed that’s oozing the toxic chemical debris, filtering your air minimizes that. It just lowers the toxicity points throughout your whole entire day.

Reduce Toxins & Support Your Natural Detoxification Processes

All of these, collectively, will help lower your toxic burden. Ultimately, we want to really eliminate that exposure to toxic chemicals and pollutants and really power up your body’s natural detox process, not burden it. The key here is it’s just lifting off some of the really important things that can unburden your body and I know you’re going to feel a lot better. When you practice all six of these in full utility, you’re going to notice a big difference in how you breathe, how your body processes, and how you feel. I’m excited to share these six tips for you.

Top 8 Doctor-Recommended Foods To Support Your Lymphatic System

Video Transcript:

Today, I’m going to share with you several key and important foods that you can use to support your lymphatic system. One of the things I’m really excited to share with you, I actually have a background and credentialing in supporting patients’ lymphatic systems. I’m a lymphatic drainage therapist, and I actually educate medical providers, I train them on how to support the lymphatic system of their patients. And there are certain disorders and diseases of the lymphatic system that I specialize in.

This, for many of my patients, tends to be a broken record, what I’m going to say, but I’m really excited to share these tips. If they’re new to you, they’re going to greatly enhance your lymphatic process. And before I get into these specific foods, it is really important that every day you seek to choose activities and lifestyle practices that will support your lymphatic system. And why is the question that I often hear from patients.

Why it’s Important to Support Lymphatic Flow

Your lymphatic system is a dual player in your body. It has a core function of supporting your immune system, your immune state. So, if your immune system’s a little weak, or it’s gone haywire and it’s attacking, you’ve got autoimmunity, your lymphatic system’s really important to support.

And then, also, it’s what is our garbage disposal system. It’s our toxic waste removal process. And we often will see through sweat, we remove toxins, and we excrete them through kidneys and the bowels. So, if you find you might be a little bit more toxic, you have a weaker immune system, these foods and adding them in on a daily basis, and sometimes multiple times throughout the day, you are going to really enhance your lymphatic process. So, I’m really excited, because these things are powerful, and I recommend them all the time to my patients.

1. Powerful Anti-Inflammatory Herb Duo

So, number one is a duo of herbs that I absolutely adore. There’s a lot of clinical research in terms of their anti-inflammatory properties and the capacity for them to enhance and speed up the lymphatic flow. And with the lymphatic system, we actually need to employ things that will move the fluid in a healthy way.

So, ginger and turmeric. Those two herbs are the herbs I’m recommending, and they are really powerful at supporting your lymphatic process. Ginger you can add as a powder, you can mix it into certain foods. I make ginger tea. Same with turmeric. Turmeric has a really nice blend with ginger, so there are often teas that you can find that have turmeric, ginger. There’s golden milk, if you’re not familiar with that. I love golden milk to have at night and add to your nighttime routine.

But ginger and turmeric, for my patients, when I recommend two to three cups of ginger and turmeric tea on a daily basis, they notice intensive fluid reduction. So, even if you’re holding on to a little excess water weight, maybe you want to drop two or three pounds, a lot of times it’s fluid. And enhancing your lymphatic process will greatly support that. And you’ll notice a reduction in that fluid retention.

2. Pineapples

And similarly to the fluid retention processes of ginger and turmeric, pineapple. Particularly the enzyme bromelain in pineapple is fantastic for enhancing lymphatic process.[1] I love to use pineapple, fresh, chopped up. You can puree it, you can even squeeze it and have the pineapple juice. It is wonderful, particularly bromelain, at enhancing the blood flow process that is connected to the lymphatic system.

So, often with patients who bruise easily, or the bruise is there for a long period of time, maybe they’ve gone through surgery and we need to minimize the bruising… And patients who have chronic vascular insufficiency, it’s called CVI. And there’s a direct pairing between CVI and your lymphatic system, because CVI, chronic vascular insufficiency, is where there’s a pooling of excess red blood cells. And the red blood cells don’t get swept up and taken and transported by the vascular system. They actually leak into the lymphatic system.

And it’ll often be seen on individuals’ legs from two or three inches below the knee down to the ankle. And it’s this reddish kind of rusted color, and it’s blood cells that are just stagnant. Pineapple is what we can use to really enhance that process. And pineapple is great, as well, for fluid reduction. And I just love the bromelain. The action of bromelain is very supportive of your lymphatic flow.

3. Citrus Foods

The third food group here are citrus foods. We are referencing here grapefruit and assorted oranges, tangerines, limes, and lemons, and even the mix of them. So, having a lemon-lime tea or juicing an assortment of your citrus foods and infusing them into water, that’s what I recommend. And what we used to serve at my wellness center was a blend of citrus fruits.

4. Cranberry

And then with that, I actually add in a fruit called cranberry. And cranberry is a really powerhouse supportive food for your lymphatic system, because cranberry is a fat emulsifier. And cranberry helps move excess fat that is in your lymphatic system. It helps it move out. And your lymphatic system does get rid of fat cells. So, that’s really important, because we don’t want them to get sticky. We want them to be mobile. And the emulsification, that process through cranberry, helps get the flow moving and decongest that system.

5. Dandelion Greens

Now, another thing that you can add to your daily diet, and you could use tincture, you could use the greens, or you could make teas, are dandelion. Using dandelion greens, I love, in your regular salads. And then also brewing up dandelion tea is very supportive of your lymphatic system, because it moves bile out of the liver. So, it’s a very pro-liver supportive herbal.

But in the process of bile production, bile moves toxins out of your digestive process. And one of the most comprehensive, complex structure, of the lymphatic system – the lymphatic vessels and the lymph nodes – the bulk of it is in your digestive process. So, moving your bowels and getting bile moving via dandelion tea actually supports your lymphatic process. And the act of bowel contents moving through the small and large intestine actually motivate your lymphatic system. It’s something that a lot of people don’t realize, but when you’re constipated, you’re not getting that lymphatic movement in the lower torso.

6. Omega-3-Dense Foods

Next, I recommend eating healthy fats, particularly omegas. Omega-3-dense foods, reaching for chia seeds and flax seeds and hemp oil. These are going to be all good things. Healthy fat in your fish, healthy proteins, even nuts and seeds are going to really give your body the healthy fats that it needs to reduce inflammation, which tends to bog down the lymphatic system. So, that is a secondary byproduct of supporting the lymphatic system. So, we lower our inflammatory factors by enhancing healthy fats in your daily intake.

7. Nettle Tea

Now, another tea that I love to recommend is nettle. Nettle is a lesser-known tea that’s fantastic for the lymphatic system, but it is so powerful at moving fluid. It really gets the kidneys and the bladder engaged. And a lot of folks do notice slight reduction in fluid retention. It’s not as powerful, I will say, as ginger and turmeric. Those are my number ones. But nettle is highly effective at just overall supporting your lymphatics.

8. Fermented Foods: Prebiotics and Probiotics

And then last and final, reach for fermented food. So, you want to reach for kimchi and your kefir and beet kvass, miso – all of the fermented foods that are going to be prebiotic and probiotic dense. That really helps support the digestive process. And the more we can support our digestive process, because the bulk of our lymphatic structure is in the gut, then it really helps to support that whole gut process and lymphatic flow.

So, those are my food tips today, and I know these will be really helpful, and I look forward to hearing which ones you try, and which ones you find the most effective for your own body.

How to Detox Your Body the Right Way

Video Transcript:

Today, I’m really excited to share with you how to detox your body. Specific tips, how-to’s, some pitfalls, and also ways to maximize a good detox to support your overall health and wellness.

So, specifically, when you are looking at detoxing your body, I just want you to know that your body is automatically detoxing whether you choose a certain cleanse or detox program, but just know we have certain organs and systems within the body that are considered your detoxification organs and systems.

Detoxification Organs & Systems

Specifically, any detox is going to target several of these organs and systems. The most important of all of these systems is your lymphatic system. That is part of both your immune system and it is responsible for removing toxic waste, debris, pathogens, fat cells – even cancer cells exit the body through the lymphatic system. So, that’s one super important system. Another organ that is really critical is your liver.

Then we also have your digestive process, primarily your lower GI. The liver corresponds to that process, but that is definitely one that is really, really important to zero in on. Especially getting food moving and really supporting your bowel process. Then we also have your kidneys and your bladder, and even your lungs, so breathing, and your skin. And those all, collectively, comprise and make up your detox process.

6 Core Detox Tips

Hydrate

So, anytime we’re thinking about how do we support and detoxify the system, there’s really six core tips that I recommend. So first, you want to hydrate your body really well. The act of hydrating supports both the kidneys and the bladder, it supports the digestive process. So, we’re moving the bowel contents out of the small and large intestine, and it also supports the lymphatic process, especially when we’re looking at sweating and getting toxins out via the lymphatic process. We have to hydrate our body optimally for all of the detox organs and systems to function at their best.

Eat Clean Food

The second is what you’re intaking via food. You want to eat clean, healthy, organic, pesticide-free, herbicide- and insecticide-free foods. You want to, if you’re consuming animal protein, you want to really be aware of what your animal protein is eating. So, you want to limit the exposure to all of the toxins that can be entered or can get into our body via the food that we eat.

So, sometimes you might want to look at sourcing a CSA community farm or even consume your eggs or animal proteins and even your veggies through local farmers that you can see how they’re growing, you know their growing practices, and really limit that exposure to toxins that way.

Use Non-Toxic Personal Care Products

The third is to eliminate toxin exposure via not just food, but also your environment. Primarily, a lot of our toxin exposure is going to come in via the skin. So, this affects the lymphatic system because the lymphatic system sits superficially.

There’s two levels of the lymphatics. So, the top level sits right under your skin. It connects up with the skin and sweating, but it also is part of that whole absorption process. So, overloading your skin with chemicals from skincare products, the products you use to clean your teeth and use on your hair. So, just be aware of your everyday skincare products – the use items there can very much help support your detox program and minimize the need for your body to be overburdened and have those lymphatics, the lymphatic system, and your lungs, and your skin, and your digestive process, and kidneys, and bladder be overwhelmed.

Limit Environmental Toxins

Similarly, toxins in the environment that are really common that I see with my patients are things like the plugins, the air fresheners, those are just spewing all sorts of fragrances and phthalates that are highly toxic. So, you want to be aware of things that you’re using to clean your house and what you might be using to make your house smell fresh. From candles to scented plugins, even perfumes that we use on our body. These are all things to be aware of. Same thing in the car.

I love to recommend that folks clean up their air via air filtration processes and include that in the car, because a lot of times you spend driving in the car, and if you’ve got a plugin or one of those things hanging, the air fresheners, hanging from the window, it just overwhelms the body.

Get Your Sweat On

Now, the other aspect to supporting a detox is getting out and being physical. So, the act of being physical and sweating invigorates your lymphatic system. This is what gets the process moving where we are detoxing and ridding the body and aiding the process of the lymphatic system to get rid of toxins.

So, sweat is powerful in any type of detox program, and often we will see folks accelerate the whole sweat process through infrared saunas or sauna and heat therapy. But being physical is a great way to invigorate that whole process. That also, being physical, will get the bowels moving. So, that’s very positive. And you will also increase the excretion via a void, which we consider a urination. So, physical activity is great for that.

Make Deep Sleep a Priority

And then one that a lot of folks don’t consider to be part of a detox process is to get ample adequate amount of sleep every night. Ideally, seven to nine hours is the kind of sweet spot for sleep, depending on each person and your schedule. But you want deep, long-term, uninterrupted sleep. And the reason here is that more recently in the last seven years, we discovered that there is a lymphatic process in the head and in the brain.

That lymphatic process is called the glymphatic system. And we have little cells, brain cells, that are kind of the housekeepers of our brain. They’re called the glial cells. And we know through research and study of this whole process, the glial cells only operate when we sleep and we sleep optimally.

And the glial cells remove toxic debris from our brain. They get rid of brain-based inflammation. They help clear out toxicity in our brain. And that’s really powerful because one of the most important things we want to do is keep our brain healthy, and supple, and optimized, and functional, and sleep helps the brain detoxify itself.

Consider a Cleanse

And then, last and final, is to consider doing a cleanse. This is a more targeted, more specific approach to detoxing your body. Sometimes there are kits and packages where you can have a detox for two weeks or four weeks. So, others will do certain extended fastings for detoxing. But I recommend our detox kit here. And this is comprised of two different elements that are going to target all of the detox organs and systems.

So, we have our Cleanse and our Detoxx product, and they together work to function and power up all of your detox organs. And this is really important because you want to support and cleanse the kidneys and the bladder. You want to support and detox the digestive process, your colon. You want to support and detox your lymphatic system. And through our Cleanse and Detoxx product, those two together are really gentle but super powerful, full comprehensive product and plan for you to detox your body.

So, I really want to highlight… This is the other thing, a lot of times people think detoxes mean they’re going to be stuck or attached to the bathroom because there’s a major evacuation happening. That is not an ideal detox. And in fact, those tend to be what get people into, they get them into trouble where they either get dehydrated or they’re losing minerals and really key micronutrients too quickly.

I’m really excited to share with you our Detox and our Cleanse products because they’re gentle.
